HELLO, I'M SO
EXCITED YOU'RE HERE

CALL ME KASS

One day (around 12 years old) my grandparents got me a little orange camera from Walmart and this moment i'll forever remember, once I got home and started taking pictures I was hooked and I haven't stopped since. (just with a much better camera now haha.)
As I grew so did my love for photography especially organic photos, my nana raised me and is truly my favourite person in the whole world and growing up she hated having her photo taken so the ones where she didn't notice you taking them were not only candid but felt so her. Seeing her personality come through, freezing that in time, there is something so magical about that. When she passed those photos are how I get to relive those memories, it makes me emotional thinking I get to give other people that.

I started doing weddings right out of high school (2015), I worked for tons of different photographers with different styles before branching off on my own the following year. It taught me so many things but mainly that I wanted to mix styles, documenting things authentically and artistically, candids with an "editorial" essence.
My work is based on observation, I want to capture special moments non intrusively, ones that may pass by quickly but mean so much later on. Each story is deeply personal and I want your gallery to feel that way, a reflection of who you and your loved ones are and what you mean to each other.

Connecting with people and getting to know them is something i've always loved, which is funny because I am an extremely anxious person in my personal life but not at work, I truly become a different version of myself.  Getting your photo taken can feel vulnerable and make you feel anxious and I want to make you feel as comfortable and confident as possible, your memories should be true and having you feel yourself is key to that process. I feel incredibly honoured to be apart of peoples stories so I value the time I get to connect with those they care about and giving them photos that make them feel something.

"THE OLD FRIEND WITH THE CAMERA"

THE PHOTO ORIGIN STORY, IF YOU WILL.

A DOCUMENTARY
STYLE PHOTOGRAPHER
WITH A LOVE FOR THE NOSTALGIC, HEARTFELT MOMENTS

Something that inspires me is YOU, every shoot would be the same if every couple was, the more I get to know you, and witness the relationships between your family, your friends and see what you love; the more interesting and inspiring my job gets.

When my couples put thought and intention into the details of their day and their guest experience it shows through the photos.

Shooting on different mediums (35mm film, 120mm film + super 8mm), trying to view things differently and giving direction over strictly posing people inspire me greatly. It truly feels like making art, it's a collaborative effort between me and my subject(s) leaving room for the unexpected, natural moments to take the stage.

I am always inspired by photographers like: Daniel Kim his work always feels like your apart of a moment, something you couldn't pose but had to be there for.

WHAT INSPIRES ME

-when my film comes back from the lab

-waking up to a sunny day, everything things warm and alive

-a comfy big sweater

-going for a walk to get a matcha

-spending time with my best friends (we've known each other since kindergarten) it is a love that is so special to me, we are either laughing at the stupidest things only we would laugh at or having deep conversations that make you feel true connection.

-being present in nature

-visiting with my mom + my grandpa- I am extremely close with my family, we are silly together and can tell each other anything. Truly my family are my biggest cheerleaders.

-a craft of some sort lately I have been into: pottery, magazine collages and oil pastels. If I could sew I would include that as well but alas it is not in my wheelhouse.

-cuddling with my dog and cats- they are my everything

-growing up and growing with my husband, we have been together since grade 9 and I feel honoured to witness love first hand, it is the toughest and most rewarding thing to be in love.

MY FAVOURITE THINGS

-SILK: dresses, scarves, it just feels beautifully simple yet elegant and is so flattering. It photographs beautifully.

-FILM: in all formats, it just feels so nostalgic and timeless, the way its been in the hands of so many generations and still lives on. The rewarding and sometimes humbling feeling of getting it back is so different then the instant feedback and gratification digital gives you.

-NATURE: watching my clients interact with each other in a natural environment is mixing two beautiful things that you can't control and man does it ever make for good art.

-FLASH: ohhhhh man I love a good flash moment, the way it effortlessly makes things feel editorial and different is just so fun to play with.

-VEILS: I am a huge fan of veils especially the lace framing ones, they just add a elevated traditional look that can completely change a bridal look.

GRANDPARENTS: okay here me out, maybe it's because I have such a personal soft spot for grandparents because I grew up with mine but any organic little moment between a couple and their grandparents always has me smiling or in tears.
